Our handmade rugs

Excellent craftsmanship, perfect pieces.

Each of our pieces, at Caravane, is conceived and created so that we can be proud of it. It is of course a matter of design and imagination: we strive to offer unique, lively and singular objects. But it's also a commitment to respect our values at every step of the creation process.

Our rugs are no exception to the rule. Each one of them is designed to naturally embrace your interior. However, all this work only exists if we put the same rigor and respect for our values into the making of our pieces. This is why we carefully choose our partners, in a constant concern to combine the quality of the finished product and its manufacturing conditions - because we believe that when we work with experts, we allow ourselves to achieve excellence.

Each of our partner artisans brings something special to the making of our rugs. Handmade, using precise ancestral techniques, and carried out with the utmost respect for their traditions, usually in the very place where they were born.

GALEE is a perfect example of this timeless know-how. A wool carpet, locally produced, directly in the Indian province where it is woven. If it catches the eye, it is because it is definitely unique - its tassels and braided pattern are only made possible by reproducing the traditional Miri technique, which gives it that recognizable texture and softness.

BAYANA is woven by hand on rustic wooden looms directly in the Mirzapur region of India - a region where handloom is still a mainstay of the economy today.

There, the secrets of weaving are passed down from generation to generation. They play with techniques, alternating different embroidery techniques to obtain rich, raised textures, or they use the traditional Panja method, which uses thick, colored threads that intertwine line by line to compose the pattern.

This is also the case with SAGHI and TIGRE, who use the same technique to draw graphic and colorful shapes on the loom. Large, contrasting floral motifs for SAGHI, which draw on a local imagination to compose a luminous, lively image, nourished by the know-how passed down for generations. An iconic tiger of the brand, evoking its region of origin, for TIGRE, which plays on the codes of a wild bestiary, all in sustainable wool and biodegradable cotton.

The KHARO rug weaves vegetable and natural fibers, subtly colored, with a technique that is unlike any other, and allows this regularity of the pattern, through which we feel the hand of the one who wove it.

LIRA, on the other hand, is a canvas woven with multicolored cotton threads - entirely handmade on a loom, it uses scraps of fabric collected in India to compose a colorful image, almost like a painting. Each strip of fabric is set one by one, to form a single weft.

Finally, TAOMA, which uses the traditional jacquard technique on a modern and graphic design. Woven in a province in the south of Nepal, on looms mastered by agile hands, the jacquard is drawn point by point - a masterful technique that sustains the economy of entire villages by itself.

And then there are the rugs that draw from tradition, and reinvent age-old know-how with new variations. Always woven by hand, they bring that touch of modernity that structures an entire room with one detail. This is the case of FEROE, which borrows its name from the northern islands which have developed their own knitting techniques to protect themselves from the cold. Our rug naturally incorporates this technique in its weaving and pattern.

For ADAO, the pattern is inspired by Ikat - this Indonesian technique which consists of dyeing woolen threads before weaving it. Our technique is a little different, but still masters that tight, dancing weave that gives this rug such a vibrant look.

The DUOBA rug uses two different hand weaving techniques. The most recognizable is, of course, Kuba: a technique from Central Africa whose name means Lightning - obvious when you see the precise contrast it allows the patterns to trace.

At Caravane, we imagine our rugs as virtuous circles: choosing trusted partners, whose excellent work we know and appreciate, allows us to guarantee quality that always meets your expectations.
