These table mats are the embodiment of ancestral know-how; that of growing and weaving fibres from madur reeds, which grow in the marshlands of Western Bengal. A chain of cotton is spun by hand before being placed on a manual loom. The dyeing and weaving technique used is very close to that of Ikat: the design is created by dyeing the fibres first, at precise intervals, so that it is the plaiting that brings it out as the craftsman weaves each strand of madur, one-by-one, to form the weft. A delicate alignment of plant fibres, in which natural colour and indigo dye blend and intermingle to form these traditional patterns and produce the silky feel. A symbol of rural Bengal life given a new twist to offer your table an astonishing extra touch. Furthermore, these mats are totally environment-friendly and highly practical since a quick wipe with a damp sponge is all that is needed by way of cleaning. MADUR expresses the artistic essence of reeds: fine and peaceful, supple but imperturbable
